Hunt Ventures is committed to giving back to the communities
where it works and where its people live. BHV pledges
to contribute the greater of 1% of its revenues or 10%
of its profits to charitable causes and community service
groups focused on health, education, the arts and the
environment. At the end of each year, BHV’s people
will each select an organization to which they would like
the company to make a donation on their behalf.
More importantly, BHV’s people are encouraged to
volunteer their time and expertise to helping whatever
community service organizations they believe in and want
to help. The company gives its people one afternoon per
month off to spend on volunteer activities. But this paid
time off is only the beginning. Hopefully it is the catalyst
to encourage BHV’s people to devote time on a regular
basis to non-profit, volunteer organizations.
Here are some examples of volunteerism
and community service we would like to share:
Carol Pope, BHV’s
controller, volunteers at:
- Starlight Starbright (The foundation’s mission
statement is “Helping seriously ill children and
their families cope with their pain, fear and isolation
through entertainment, education and family services.”)
www.starlight.org,
Camp Okizu (Mission statement is “Providing recreation,
respite and peer support programs to meet the needs
of all members of families affected by childhood cancer.”)
- Camp Okizu offers the unique opportunity for children
with cancer (and their siblings) to learn independence,
nourish positive self esteem and gain skills they never
thought were possible. For more information on Camp
Okizu, please visit their website at: www.okizu.org.
- Sutter/VNA and Hospice in San Mateo County-. For more
information, please visit www.suttervna.org.
Brad
Blake, BHV’s CEO, is on the board of Tony
La Russa’s Animal Rescue Foundation and is the founder
and president of College is Real, Inc. College is Real
provides awareness, mentoring, and resources to help members
of the Richmond high school soccer program, most of who
are Latino, qualify for and get accepted to college. Brad
believes College is Real is a way to directly change the
lives of kids who have a strong desire to achieve, but
have few advocates, especially those in the mainstream
business community, who recognize the importance of a
college education, know what it takes to get into college
and can help find financial and other resources that might
not otherwise be accessible to these kids and their families.
For more information please see www.collegeisreal.org.
Over the years BHV and its people have volunteered and
made contributions to numerous community groups including
the Avon Breast Cancer Walk, National MS Walk, Boys and
Girls Clubs of America, American Diabetes Association,
SRVGAL and Mustang Soccer.
If a community organization
is interested in being considered for one of BHV’s
annual contributions that are reviewed in January of each
year, it should submit a letter to:
